CAS home : Learning and Research

Over the last ten years, the business of ranking colleges and universities has become a big business. We might easily use this space to simply manipulate the standings - to tell you where we've come out ahead, and ignore the places where we appear to be behind in the game - but to do so would be to perpetuate a game that has quite frankly stopped making sense. Academic institutions cannot be assessed as though they are athletic teams. We join Gerhard Casper, the president of Stanford University, in his call for greater honesty in ranking procedures variables. In this section, we will address our status in the rankings honestly: you will see where we've done well and where we have done less well - and in both cases, we'll show you why.

Where we've done well... and why

Where we did less well... and why
