Brief Member Profiles

Marv Abeene ’66 (Business Economics) has been a trust banker for more than thirty years. Currently trust officer for the Salem Office of Bank of the Cascades, Marv is also very active in his community: Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, Salem Rotary Club, Salem Hospital Foundation, Salem Art Association and others.

Bruce Abrams 81 (Political Science) has his own law firm in San Diego. He is an advocate for his community and has served in various capacities for organizations such as Liberty Hill Foundation, the ACLU, the San Diego Foundation for Change and the San Diego AIDS Foundation.

Chris Babcock ’71, ’76 (Chemistry) has been the CEO of Bend Research Inc. since 1989. His expertise includes research and development of novel drug-delivery systems; coupled-transport, reverse-osmosis, and gas-separation membranes; and thin films of light-absorbing polymers.

Les Bergeron ’56 (General Science) is a retired physician and has remained active in professional and community endeavors. He was the chairman of the Development Committee for the State of Oregon's Lewis and Clark Bicentennial.

Jim Bernard ’60 (Chemistry) is the former President/CEO of Univar Corporation, where he began as a trainee with the firm in 1960. He is a former UO Trustee.

Spencer Brush ’67 (History) is senior vice president at Morgan Stanley, operating out of San Francisco’s financial district. Spence resides in Piedmont, CA with wife Sydney. His son, Stuart, is a 2004 alumnus.

Judy Calkins ’88 (Journalism) ’91 (Law) is a partner in the law firm of Calkins & Calkins in Eugene, OR, and specializes in estate law. Judy has served on the boards of several local community service and non-profit organizations, including Goodwill Industries.

Michael Couch ’64 (Political Science) is the president and owner of Couch Properties, with offices in Los Altos, CA and Palo Alto, CA. Mike is an active volunteer for organizations such as the YMCA in the mid-peninsula area. He and his wife Jean live in Los Altos Hills, CA.

Judi (Darling) Davis ’70 (Fine Arts) works as an artist in Portland where she lives with her husband Gaylord (’68). Both her daughters, Marie (’01) and Annie (’03) have graduate from the University of Oregon.

Taylor Fithian ’66 (Biology) is the President and Medical Director of California Forensic Medical Group, Inc. Along with his two partners, he founded CFMG in 1983 with 14 employees; they currently have around 800 employees.

Ray Honerlah ’64 (Math) is the former Program Officer for M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust. Ray and his wife Katie reside in Langley, Washington.

Dar Isensee ’62 (Business Economics) is retired from UBS as stockbroker and investment counselor. Dar, who enjoys fly fishing, is also an officer on the board of Oregon Trout, a non-profit organization interested in the preservation of Oregon’s trout fishing streams.

Christopher Kantrowitz ’97 (Political Science) is managing director for Frank the Plumber, a video production company located in Hollywood, CA. He is a member of the UO Alumni Association Board of Directors.

John A. Kennedy ’63 (Economics) has been the President and CEO of Pacifica Bank since 2003. He has served on the UO Alumni Association Board and the International Business Advisory Board.

Ed Kushner ’64 (Physics) worked for Intel for 15 years as an engineer, first in the application of supercomputers in science and engineering and then in the promotion of technology within the company to verify the design of microprocessors.

Jeffrey Loomis ’84 (Political Science) is CEO and president of Loomis Group, an international agency that provides public relations expertise to clients in consumer and medical technology, health care, communications, and nanotechnology.

Ann Gerlinger Lyman ’55 (Social Science) is a sales associate for Roy Ferris, Realtor, in Salem, OR. From a long line of Ducks, Ann is also a former Trustee of the UO Foundation. She and husband Ron (’54) live in Salem.

Tom Marriott ’74 (Chemistry) was the managing director of TOP Pharmaceutical Consulting, LLC, and assisted in the early stage of biotech companies with drug development and regulatory submissions to the FDA.

Penny Pettit Martin ’61 (History) is a retired account manager for Microsoft Corporation. Penny and her husband David live in Medina, WA, where she is active with charities such as Shephard’s Counseling Service and Residence East.

Michael McCaslin ’83 (Political Science) is a lawyer for McKeown & Brindle, PC in Portland. He also attended Northwestern School of Law. Mike and his wife, Libby, have three children.

Robert Melich ’74 (English) is a business and product realization consultant, currently residing in Louisville, CO.

Thomas Mesher ’67 (Political Science) is the president of Manzanita Holding Company. Tom has had a long career in the tea business, which has included creation of such well-known products as Stash Tea and Tazo.

John Natt ’64 (Chemistry) is the retired managing director for Clear Vision Associates, which analyzes and forecasts business trends and conditions in the forest products industry. He is a member of the National Association of Business Economists and the American Chemical Society.

Barbara Perry ’68 (Sociology), ’76, ’93 (Counseling Psychology) is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Eugene. She has served on the boards of Planned Parenthood and Oregon Mental Health Associates.

John Rudolph ’74 (Psychology) is the former president and CEO of Rudolph & Sletten, Inc., one of California’s largest and most diversified general and engineering contractors. John resides in Los Altos, CA.

Loren Sutherland has over 30 years experience in the sales, marketing and corporate management of capital equipment, materials and services to the semiconductor and non-electronics industries.

Mary Alice Wetzel ’53 (Business Administration) is the retired vice president for Human Resources at Liberty House in Hawaii.

Penny Wilkes is a writer who has a focus on creative and nature writing. She moved to Eugene while her husband, Michael, completed a degree in architecture and she became a born again Duck while tutoring freshman football players for the University.

Carolyn Younger ’67 (Physical Education) is a real estate appraiser for Younger and Associates, an appraisal firm in Portland, OR.
