Alexandra is a building scientist investigating the lessons that existing buildings, vernacular design practices, and patterns of climatic resources such as solar energy, cool night air, cold night skies, dry air, etc. hold for contemporary climate-responsive design. Her research efforts in passive solar heating, passive cooling, and natural ventilation combine field studies with energy modeling to reveal patterns that cannot be found by either method alone. This work is funded by the National Science Foundation and has been published in Building and Environment, Energy and Buildings, Applied Energy, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Renewable Energy, and Science and Technology of the Built Environment. She is the Past President of the Society of Building Science Educators, and she has previously taught in the School of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She holds a Ph.D. in Biology from MIT and an M.Arch. from the University of Oregon.
