With more than 1,000 faculty and staff, the College of Arts and Sciences has many professors, instructors, researchers, and staff deserving of recognition for the work they do. 

CAS offers recognition awards that celebrate those who go above and beyond in the classroom, workplace, and lab. To apply for a recognition award, candidates are either self-nominated or nominated by their colleagues. The college also funds grants for faculty members to help them conduct research; engage with the community through academic programs; support diversity, equity, and inclusion — and more.

Recognition Awards

The College of Arts and Sciences is home to faculty and staff who are committed to the mission of providing students with a world-class education. To honor their work, CAS offers awards that celebrate their dedication to teaching, researching, and furthering diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. To apply for recognition awards, candidates can apply or a colleague can nominate someone whose work and service to the students and college goes above and beyond.

CAS Awards Around Campus

PHYSICS - An assistant professor of physics at the University of Oregon College of Arts and Sciences, Nguyen has been named the 2025 recipient of the American Physical Society’s (APS) Maria Goeppert Mayer Award. Named after a German American theoretical physicist who was co-awarded the 1963 Nobel Prize in Physics, this award honors exceptional achievement by a woman physicist in the early years of her career.
PHYSICS - University of Oregon College of Arts and Sciences physicists Eric Corwin and Ben McMorran were awarded 2025 American Physical Society Fellowships. Corwin was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the physics of the glass and jamming transitions using simulations and experiments. McMorran was recognized for his contributions to electron matter wave physics.
EARTH SCIENCES - In spring 2025, Marli Miller received a Herman Award for Specialized Pedagogy. Taking a liberal arts approach, Miller’s focus is on helping students think about and work through problems, which they have a chance to put into practice on a yearly field camp in southwestern Montana.
