CAS Recognition Awards
CAS Career Faculty Excellence Award
The Career Faculty Excellence Award recognizes a career faculty member, from either the instructional or research track, who demonstrates sustained teaching or research excellence. Up to two (2) awards will be made each year. Awardees will receive $2,500 (distributed as a stipend or professional development funds) and a certificate of recognition. CAS Collegiate Faculty Award
The CAS Collegiate Faculty Award is the highest honor the college awards to active tenure track faculty members who warrant the recognition that comes with a named title. This prestigious award honors faculty members who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made outstanding contributions to their field and the broader university community.
Recipients will hold the title of CAS Collegiate Faculty and will receive an annual salary stipend of $8,000 and a $2,500 research supplement for three years. Departments may nominate one tenured faculty member each year.

CAS Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award
The CAS Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award recognizes emerging and/or sustained efforts made toward diversity, equity and inclusion.The award will be made to either individuals or teams who do extraordinary work to advance these core values. Individual awardees will receive $2,500 (as a stipend of professional development funds) and a certificate of recognition.Group awards will receive $5,000 (as a stipend or group activity funds) and a certificate of recognition.
Eligible individuals are current CAS employees (who have a current CAS appointment at the time of their nomination) and CAS students (enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in CAS). Eligible groups include any group—including CAS students, faculty, and staff—who engage in a joint endeavor.

CAS Service in Leadership award
The CAS Service and Leadership Award is a $2,500 award that recognizes faculty and staff who have made extraordinary contributions to the department, college, and/or university through their service and/or leadership. CAS Staff Excellence award
The CAS Staff Excellence Award is a $2,500 award that recognizes exceptional performance by CAS staff. The award will be made to either individuals or teams that have excelled in their positions and demonstrated a strong commitment to the mission of CAS and UO. The award amount is $2,500 to an individual or $5,000 to a team. For more information, contact Rachel Kahn.
Rippey Innovative Teaching Awards
Rippey Innovative Teaching Awards, funded generously by an endowment established by Jim and Shirley Rippey, are intended to encourage and support the teaching of undergraduate courses by senior faculty members in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Rippey Awards go to faculty teaching a First‐Year Interest Group, who collaborates across disciplines while teaching the College Connections course. The awards are $3,000 ($1,500 for each year), and faculty who apply agree to teach a FIG for two consecutive years.
Tykeson Teaching Award
The annual Tykeson Teaching Awards celebrate outstanding faculty members in each division of CAS who go above and beyond in the classroom. Winners receive a $2,500 cash prize and recognition for their exceptional dedication and impact on student learning. For more information, contact Rachel Kahn.
University of Oregon Awards
Office of the Provost Awards
Each year, the University of Oregon recognizes the work of its faculty members through annual awards.
Awards from the Provost Office include:
- The Herman Faculty Achievement Award and the Herman Awards for Specialized Pedagogy recognizes senior career instructional or tenure track faculty, teaching for at least an average of .5 FTE across the academic year, who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and expertise in a particular area of teaching. Winners receive a $5,000 award.
- The Herman Award for Outstanding Online Education: The Herman Award for Outstanding Online Education recognizes faculty members at any stage of their career who have demonstrated innovation and creativity in implementing excellent learning experiences using the online or hybrid format.
- The Ersted Awards. The Ersted Award for Distinguished Teaching is an annual honor for career instructional or tenure-track faculty members who have demonstrated early career excellence. The award is presented to faculty who are currently in their third, fourth, fifth or sixth year teaching for at least an average of .5 FTE across the academic year. This teaching may occur at the undergraduate or graduate level. The award is institutional recognition for teaching excellence and a permanent salary increase. Recipients receive a one-time $2,000 award and a permanent $2,000 increase to their base salary.
