Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What does “Employed in Field” mean?

Employed in Field refers to alumni working in roles aligned with their program of study. Lightcast determines this using a CIP-to-SOC mapping based on the NCES crosswalk and professional expertise. If no determination is possible, the outcome is marked “out of field.”

Do employer counts include all job types?

Yes. Employer counts reflect alumni currently working at these organizations in any capacity, based on publicly available profiles. This includes full-time, part-time, and self-employed roles, and does not distinguish between job levels (e.g., staff, faculty, administration).

Does the University of Oregon employer number include student workers?

Undergraduates, no. Student worker positions are not included in the University of Oregon employer count. Lightcast filters the data to include only jobs that start after graduation, which automatically excludes all undergraduate student employment that begins while a student is enrolled. Only alumni who begin a new position at UO after completing their degree are counted as UO employees.  Graduate students, conditionally. Graduate students who previously earned their bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and start a GE or staff role after completing that bachelor’s degree may be included.

How are wage estimates calculated?

Estimated wages are based on the median wage for the alumni’s occupation in their county, adjusted for age and degree level. Potential wage reflects the average wage for that occupation in the same region.

Where does this data come from?

Lightcast aggregates publicly available professional profiles from over 100 websites and matches them to alumni records provided by the University of Oregon. This dataset is updated quarterly.

Why might some alumni not appear in these outcomes?

Only alumni with publicly available profiles that match UO records are included. Those without profiles or unmatched data are not represented.
