Applying to health graduate school can be a competitive process. To aid student in the process, The University of Oregon has agreements with various health graduate programs in the state of Oregon and across the nation that offer guaranteed admissions or interviews! You may choose to follow the pathway requirements for health graduate school admissions and also follow our prerequisite recommendations for your respective pathway in order to cast a wide net when applying to health graduate school.

Pharmacy Jump Start Program

 

Interested in pursuing a career as a pharmacist? The Pharmacy Jump Start Program with Pacific University creates a path for eligible undergraduate students to pursue guaranteed conditional admissions into pharmacy school. This program aims to nurture career interests, provide enriching pre-professional development, and pave the way for success. Participants in these programs will:

  • Receive educational and career support from Pacific University School of Pharmacy faculty
  • Participate in pre-professional workshops
  • Participate in select School of Pharmacy events
  • Build mentorship relationships with current School of Pharmacy students
  • Receive guaranteed conditional admissions to the School of Pharmacy’s PharmD program pending completion of bridge program requirements
  • Be eligible for a scholarship offered to matriculating PharmD students.

Medical School Pathway Program

Interested in becoming a doctor? The Pathway to Western University of Health Sciences – College of Osteopathic Medicine (COMP-NW) program creates an opportunity for eligible University of Oregon students and recent alumni to matriculate as candidates for the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree located in Lebanon, Oregon. The pathway program offers a guaranteed interview.

About COMP-Northwest:

COMP-Northwest students experience a highly integrated pre-clinical curriculum. You will gain considerable early clinical experience and be well-prepared when you enter the third- and fourth-year rotations. The Mission of COMP-Northwest is to prepare students to become technically competent, culturally sensitive, professional and compassionate physicians who are prepared for graduate medical education, who are lifelong learners, and who will serve society by providing comprehensive patient-centered healthcare with the distinctive osteopathic philosophy. This is accomplished through excellence in curriculum, translational research, service, osteopathic clinical practice and the enhancement of osteopathic graduate medical education. Student Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Successfully completed (or projected to complete) a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon with no more than one-year gap between time of graduation and application to Western University – COMP Northwest.
  2. Completion of all COMP-Northwest prerequisites coursework as outlined on the perspective student page.
  3. Minimum 3.40 cumulative GPA and a 3.50 science GPA.
  4. 505 MCAT score, taken no more than 3 years before the time of application.
  5. Minimum 50 hours of volunteer service in a field of your choice.
  6. Minimum 100 hours of healthcare experience. Shadowing does not apply to this category.
  7. One letter of recommendation from a science professor.
  8. One letter of recommendation from a physician, DO physician preferred.
  9. Complete a UO Pre-Health advising appointment to include grad essay review and practice interview and/or 1 credit Pre-Health course.
  10. Attend a minimum of 1 on-campus visit during COMP-NW information day prior to applying.
  11. Students transferring into UO must complete at least 6 quarters at UO to qualify for a COMP-Northwest interview. In addition, their science GPA will be calculated using both UO and Transfer coursework.

How to Apply:

  1. Students must indicate interest in the Pathway Program when applying to COMP-NW on their AACOMAS application.
  2. Priority consideration will be given to granted to qualified applicants who successfully submit a completed AACOMAS application by November 1st of the year prior to intended matriculation.
  3. All applicants interested in the Pathway Program must complete and submit their AACOMAS application no later than March 1st of the year of intended matriculation.

Acceptance to the Pathway Program:

  1. Acceptance to the Pathway Program does not guarantee admissions! Students accepted to the Pathway Program are expected to demonstrate motivation and personal qualities that give evidence of their suitability for a career in Osteopathic Medicine, as discussed on Western University COMP-NW website. This will be evaluated through the primary application materials, supplemental essays and the interview.
  2. In addition, eligible applicants must have a disciplinary record entirely free of felony convictions or a violation of a professionalism and/or student conduct standard as defined by section 41301 of Title V.

Physical Therapy Pathway Program

Interested in becoming a physical therapist? The University of Oregon offers two Physical Therapy pathways to increase your chances of matriculating into a Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. Eligible University of Oregon students and recent alumni can apply to the following programs:

Western University of Health Sciences located in Lebanon Oregon offers a guaranteed interview and an application voucher.

Tufts University DPT Programs are located in Boston, Phoenix, and Seattle. They offer guaranteed admissions for 10 stellar candidates for each program location. A total of 30 seats are reserved for University of Oregon Students in each application cycle.

About Western University of Health Sciences - Doctor of Physical Therapy Education Program:

The mission of the Western University of Health Sciences - Doctor of Physical Therapy Education program is to educate and develop service-oriented leaders in the profession of Physical Therapy who will provide humanistic care in rural, underserved, and or/ vulnerable communities of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Western University’s DPTE program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and has an overall pass rate of 98% on the national licensing exam. Student Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Complete all DPTE-Oregon prerequisites and all recommended coursework as listed on the Western University website.
  2. Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and a minimum 3.0 prerequisite GPA.
  3. Three letters of recommendation: One from a professional reference, one academic reference, and one that is either a professional or academic reference.
  4. Complete Pre-Health advising appointment to include grade essay review, practice interview and/or completion of 1 credit Pre-Health course.
  5. Students transferring into UO must complete at least 6 quarters at UO to qualify for a DPTE-Oregon interview and application fee reimbursement. In addition, their science GPA will be calculated using both UO and Transfer coursework.
  6. Must have a disciplinary record entirely free of felony convictions or a violation of a professionalism and/or student conduct standard as defined by section 41301 of Title V.
  7. Must have a University of Oregon Baccalaureate degree conferred by Spring Term of the matriculation year (the year in which you will enroll in the Western University’s DPTE program.

How to Apply:

  • The Pathway Program application must be submitted by the deadline specified in the application for admission form posted for each year, and applicants must submit all required application materials in a single PDF file (excluding letters of recommendation).
  • Submit an application through PTCAS in the year you plan to matriculate into the program.
  • The decision for approval into the Pathway Program will be made by the Western University DPTE Northwest admissions committee.

After completing the interview with Western University’s DPTE program, the committee will make final decisions upon reviewing all of your application materials (Letters of recommendation, transcripts, primary/supplemental essay questions, etc.,). Upon receipt of acceptance, candidates have 10 days in which to notify the Western University DPTE Northwest Office of Admissions of intent to enroll.


Pathway to Tufts University - Doctor of Physical Therapy Program:

Tufts School of Medicine is renowned for excellence in medicine, population health education, and advanced research. Student Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Complete the prerequisite courses listed on the program website, in addition to a Bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon.
  2. Applicants with AP credit for prerequisite coursework must take additional courses in that subject to satisfy the requirement (i.e., AP credit earned in BI 221z, 222z and 223z. You must complete 3 terms of additional Biology).
  3. Overall cumulative GPA and prerequisite GPA of a 3.0.
  4. C or higher in all prerequisite courses.
  5. Complete 40 hours of Observation. Employment in a PT Clinic can count towards the observation hours.
  6. Two letters of recommendation: 1 from a certified Physical Therapist and 1 academic letter of recommendation from a professor.
  7. Remain in good academic and student conduct standing.

How to Apply:

  • Complete 7/10 prerequisites by the time of application submission.
  • Submit an application through PTCAS in the year you plan to matriculate into the program.
  • To be considered for guaranteed admission, applicants must have their PTCAS application verified by January 15th. It is recommended to apply 3-4 weeks before the deadline to allow time for verification.
  • Applicants must apply to each program location of interest. It is possible to apply to all 3 locations if interested.

After completing the interview with the Tufts University School of Medicine Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, applicants will receive notification of admission. Tufts University DPT Program reserves the right to make the final decision regarding admission of student applicants, based upon the current admission requirements and the students' academic and conduct standing.
