Andrew Lovering earned a B.S. in Biology from Texas Tech University in 1995 working as an undergraduate researcher with Chuck Reigel, PhD and Jim Carr, PhD. He received his PhD in physiology from Texas Tech University School of Medicine in 2003 working with John Orem, PhD. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the Rankin Laboratory of Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health working with Jerry Dempsey and Marlowe Eldridge before joining the Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon in 2007.
His Cardiopulmonary & Respiratory Physiology Laboratory is interested in how the human body is impacted by extreme environmental conditions including high altitude, breath-hold and scuba diving, heat/cold, and space analogs. The lab is also interested in understanding how the extreme conditions associated with preterm birth result in lifelong cardiopulmonary and respiratory consequences. The lab has been funded by DoD, NASA, NIH, American Heart Association, the American Lung Association, Fulbright Scholar’s Program, and the Partnership for Clean Competition. Please see the laboratory website for more information.
