Research

Stephen Kohl specializes in Japanese language and literatures. He has published extensively on Japanese literature. Some of his recent works include The Saint of Mt. Koya and the Song of the Troubadour, a translation of two texts by Izumi Kyoka (Takakuwa Bujutsu Insatsu, Ltd., 1990); and “Abe Jiro and the Diary of Santaro” in Culture and Identity: Japanese Intellectuals during the Interwar Years, J. Thomas Rimer, ed., (Princeton University Press, 1990). He is currently translating stories by Tachihara Masaaki and Oba Minako.
