Research Interests: longitudinal data analysis, psychometric network models, latent variable models, quantitative methods

Biography

My research interests lie in quantitative methods, which means I focus on evaluating the statistical methods that are commonly used by psychological researchers to ensure that the conclusions we draw are appropriate based on the contexts that these models are applied in. Furthermore, I am interested in adapting these methods to expand the types of research questions that can be answered. In particular, I study statistical methods for analyzing longitudinal data, both panel (a few measurements collected over many years) and intensive longitudinal (many many measurements collected over a short period of time, typically from one individual). I am also interested in combining these methods with models for latent variables (e.g., structural equation or factor models) or psychometric network models.

Dr. Johal is accepting new graduate students for Fall 2026.
