Biography

Viana Anette Hara is a doctoral candidate in Romance Languages and Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies at the University of Oregon. Working with an archive of 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century novels, postcards, and comics, and focusing on Panama, the West Indian Caribbean, and the United States, she explores issues of race and gender in cultural materials circulated before, during, and after the construction of the Panama Canal, using decolonial approaches.
