Class of 2026: You've Got This
You've put in the work. You've been tested. And you're ready to fly.
As you prepare to cross the stage on Autzen Field on June 15, College of Arts and Sciences Dean Chris Poulsen wants to remind you that you've gained valuable skills here. You've learned to think critically, communicate clearly, evaluate evidence, work across differences, and approach complex problems with creativity, empathy, and intellectual curiosity.
And the world needs that now.
"We are in a world being reshaped by rapid technological change, including artificial intelligence," Poulsen said. "But the qualities at the heart of a liberal arts education — judgment, ethical reasoning, creativity, interpretation, human understanding — are not becoming less important. They are becoming more important."
We know that wherever you go, CAS has prepared you with the foundation and skills that can help you succeed. And wherever your journey takes you, CAS will always be part of your story, and you will always be part of ours.

What’s Happening in CAS?
The final issue of the 2025-26 CAS Connection is out now! For more than 100 years, people have tried to control malaria and the mosquito that transmits the disease among humans. History professor Melissa Graboyes and her team of undergraduate students have been digging through the history of malaria to see how scientists, policymakers and public health officials have tried and failed to stop malaria.
Also in the June CAS Connection issue, why mahjong is gaining popularity, why three CAS faculty members were awarded a teaching award, how a science degree helped an alum to be a marine biologist and a brewer — and more.
Undergraduate Studies
Wherever your academic goals eventually take you at the UO, all Ducks begin their journey with foundational courses in CAS. More than 60 percent of students go on to pursue a major in a CAS department or program. With more than 50 departments and programs, there’s an intellectual home for almost any interest, talent, or career aspiration.

World-Class Faculty

3:30–6:00 p.m.
The Pacific Northwest: a geographic area ranging from Alaska to Northern California, to Montana (including British Columbia). The Indigenous languages of this area were and remain interconnected with one another. Recently, the area has been a hotbed for language revitalization and reclamation work.
The Symposium on Northwest American Indigenous Languages (SNAIL), hosted by the Northwest Native American Language Resource Center (NW-NALRC) at the Northwest Indigenous Language Institute (NILI), seeks to provide a venue for language speakers, artists, communities, and linguists to come together to share knowledge, foster collaboration, and celebrate the beauty and diversity of languages within the Pacific Northwest.
We invite talks on any topic relevant to Indigenous languages of the Pacific Northwest. We do prioritize presentations from presenters that: a) are Indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest or neighboring regions; b) work for a Tribal Nation in the Pacific Northwest or neighboring regions; or c) are working in collaboration with a Tribal Nation. While theoretical and typological presentations are welcome to apply, they will not be given priority over the work of one of the above groups. SNAIL 2026 will be held from June 26-27 in Eugene in conjunction with the NILI Summer Institute.
