Aakash is a postdoctoral scholar with the Cascadia Region Earthquake Science Center (CRESCENT) Ground Motion Modeling (GMM) Special Interest Group (SIG). Growing up in India, his interest in seismology was sparked by catastrophic earthquakes in the region (2001 Bhuj, 2004 Sumatra, and 2015 Gorkha), which caused widespread devastation and had long-lasting societal impacts. He earned his PhD in Geophysics from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he developed methods to study seismic anisotropy and its effects on the seismic wavefield. In his current role, he studies how uncertainties in seismic velocity models influence seismic hazard estimates when using a physics-based simulations approach.
