Statement

Erin Moore, AIA is a professor in the Department of Architecture and in the Environmental Studies Program. Moore is currently the Director of Academic Programs for the UO Environment Initiative and Associate Director of the Environmental Studies Program. Moore's recent design work explores the architectural space of fossil fuel consumption, multi-species design, climate justice, and ideas of nature. She uses her critical spatial practice FLOAT architectural research and design as a testing ground for designing explicit relationships with the material and biological context of buildings.

Moore’s Pipeline Portals was a finalist in the global Architizer A+Awards in the Architecture + Landscape category (2020), and the experimental Outside House was awarded the Building Voices award for environmental, social, and economic sustainability and indigenous culture by Rural Studio director and jury chair Javier Vendrell (2017). Other recent work includes Topography: Remapping the Space of Fossil Fuel Transportation, installed at Palazzo Mora in Venice, Italy for the European Cultural Center (2021), the essay Four Lessons on Land, Space, and Resistance in Survivance for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and e-flux Architecture (2021) and OUR: Collective Future Project for the Dhillon Marty Foundation under the aegis of UNESCO’s Management of Social Transformations (MOST) program (Paris, 2017). Moore was an invited contributor to the art and architecture section of the United Nations Experts' Report on Harmony with Nature (2016).

Moore’s design work has been published widely including in The Site Magazine (2021), Metropolis Magazine (2020), A Habiter Autrement (Paris: La Matinere, 2021), Off the Grid (London: Thames & Hudson, 2019), 100 Contemporary Green Buildings (Cologne: Taschen, 2013), Architecture Now! 2 (Cologne: Taschen, 2011), Small Eco-Houses, (NY: Universe, 2010), Tiny Houses (NY: Rizzoli, 2009), New Prefab (Barcelona: Loft, 2008), and in Dwell, and Architectural Record magazines. Her Equilibrium Pavilion proposal was given a Material Equilibrium prize by architect Kengo Kuma (2013) and her Borrow Stools were shortlisted for the Lexus Design Awards (2014).

Moore served as Director of the School of Architecture & Environment from 2018 to 2021 and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs of the College of Design from 2019 to 2021. Moore is a graduate of the University of California-Berkeley (Master of Architecture) and of Smith College (BA, American Studies) and is a registered architect in Oregon and Arizona.
