Statement

Dr. Jean Wu received her M.A. in Foreign Languages from West Virginia University and her Ph.D. in Linguistics from Michigan State University. Her research focuses on second language acquisition, pragmatics, comparative syntax, L2 curriculum and materials development, and language teaching technology. She currently teaches upper-division Chinese language courses at UO. Her previous teaching experience includes courses in linguistics, Integrative Studies in Arts and Humanities—East Asia, Chinese calligraphy, and English. She has also delivered numerous lectures and invited talks on teaching effectiveness as well as Chinese language and culture.

In addition to serving as Chinese Flagship Academic Director, Chinese Language Program Coordinator, and Chinese Academic Advisor, Dr. Wu has served on the Executive Committees of EALL, GSL, and the China Executive Board of the Oregon University System. Her professional experience also includes editing and reviewing Chinese language textbooks for U.S. publishers.
