Research Interests: Biophysics; multicellular organization and bacterial population dynamics; advanced microscopy techniques and computational image analysis.

Statement

My research explores biophysics: the ways in which physical laws and properties guide the function of living things. My lab focuses especially on the assembly of animal-associated microbial communities, which we explore using sophisticated optical microscopy and image analysis methods.  My teaching interests mostly involve courses for non-science majors (e.g. The Physics of Life, The Physics of Energy and the Environment). My “official” web page is:https://pages.uoregon.edu/raghu/, my blog is https://eighteenthelephant.com/ , and a pop-science book I wrote about the physics that shapes the living world is at https://smile.amazon.com/So-Simple-Beginning-Physical-Principles/dp/0691200408/ .
