Biography

Javay Frye-Nekrasova (she | her) is a scholar, sex educator, content creator, and media personality. She is originally from the East Coast, the DMV (DC, Maryland, & Virginia). She obtained her undergraduate degrees at James Madison University, and after finishing, she moved to Los Angeles, CA, where she worked in the entertainment industry. She started at a talent agency and eventually moved into production, working on live-streaming shows, reality content, and digital streaming content. During her time in LA, Javay started working at a sex shop and discovered her passion for all things sex and sex education. This new discovery is what prompted Javay to apply to grad school. She earned her Master's of Education in Human Sexuality at Widener University in Chester, PA, in 2021.

While working on her Master's, Javay moved back to the West Coast to Bend, OR. In the fall of 2021, she started her first PhD in Human Sexuality at the California Institute of Integral Studies. While working on her degree, she realized she wanted to examine the intersections of sexuality and media. To better supplement her research, she decided to pursue a second PhD and started in the Communication & Media Studies program here at the University of Oregon. Javay's areas of research include the intersections of sexuality and media, sex work, kink & BDSM, and pleasure. Outside of academia, Javay's work focuses on comprehensive, inclusive, accessible sex education for all. She has a sex education YouTube series, In Bed With a Millennial, and also teaches via social media and in-person workshops at various sex shops.
