Research Interests: Race and Gender Studies; Visual Culture; Panamanian Literature (novela canalera); U.S. White women's travel writing during the Panama Canal Construction and the Panama Canal Zone establishment; West Indian literature, particularly Guadeloupean literature and the works of Maryse Condé; representations of the West Indian Black woman in Panama; Jim Crow narratives beyond the United States; representations of the Mammy figure in the U.S. South; postcards, photography, and ekphrasis; and contemporary collage and visual art by Panamanian West Indian women artists.
